THE ruling National Resistance Movement National Executive Committee will hold a meeting in March to decide whether the Constitution can be amended to provide parliamentary seats for the elderly in Uganda.
The disclosure was made by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, while addressing members of the 50-plus Years Elderly Organisation at Parliament.
The members, led by the chairman, Dominic Mafabi, said they wanted regional representation in Parliament so that their concerns can be handled.
“our needs are unique but no one bothers to address them. We feel neglected and yet we can offer advice to the nation,†Mafabi remarked.
He suggested that elections to determine their representatives should be held through electoral colleges at district level.
Mafabi said they need affirmative action in regard to health and social services.
Kadaga promised to forward their concerns to the committee on gender, labour and social development and give a copy of the petition to the President.
