THE Bishop of the Nigerian-based Living Faith Ministries, commonly called the Winners Chapel, David Oyedepo, arrived in Uganda yesterday for a three-day gospel conference.

Oyedepo, who arrived at Entebbe Airport aboard a personal jet, was received by a group of pastors and believers.

He was driven in a 20-car convoy to Kampala.

Oyedepo will preach at the Empowerment Summit conference at Hotel Africana, Kampala, which ends on Saturday.

At Entebbe, the bishop called upon Christian leaders to unite and work for Africa’s development.

He said the church had a role to play in boosting economic development.

“Christianity is about teaching people to be responsible.”

This, he elaborated, should be done through supporting education and creating jobs for the youth.

Asked to comment on the proposed unification of Africa, Oyedepo said emphasising the private sector and not political integration, would help Africa develop.

Oyedepo, the senior pastor of a church in Nigeria which has a capacity of 50,000, has several churches across Africa.

In Uganda, a branch of the church is on Rubaga Road in Kampala.

His ministry also owns universities and other educational institutions in Nigeria.

Oyedepo has written over 20 books.

The conference is open to the public.
