She wants to commit suicide
Dear Aunt Liz,
When I was on campus, I made friends with a girl whom I called often. However, when we completed our courses, we went different ways and did not see each other for about three years. A few weeks ago, I met her and told her I was planning to get married. She was shocked and threatened to commit suicide. What can I do?

You cannot blame yourself for what is going on. Your friend had expectations of a deeper relationship you did not realise or she probably did not express this to you. Were you still in touch for the three years you were apart? It is important that you talk to her about this. If she expected to marry you, it is probably hard for her to accept the fact that you are going to marry another woman. Give her time as you make your position clear. She should see a counsellor to help her come to terms with what she is facing. All the best.

I don’t love the father of the baby
I am expecting a child with a man I don’t love. I met him a year ago and after a few months, I became pregnant. I have decided to keep the baby but we don’t get along. We always argue and I get very angry because I have a short temper. I feel like being on my own because I cannot be happy with such a man. Please advise. Paula

A relationship that is built on love, even with so many differences, stays firm. People react differently in different circumstances. I appreciate that you can tell that you are short tempered. This affects other people and you should learn to control it. Running away will not help you to deal with your temper. For how long will you keep running? Have you tried to talk about this
openly with your partner? Do you lose your temper even when you disagree with other people? It is up to you to make a responsible decision. All the best.
