MOST households have a habit of putting cutlery in tins and cups. However, with a cutlery holder, spoons, forks and knives can be neatly kept in one place.
A cutlery holder is a container specifically made for storing cutlery. It has different compartments where each kind of cutlery is placed. The holders may be wooden, plastic or metallic and come in different shapes and sizes.
Douglas Ramera, a salesperson at Ebenezer Cheap Stores opposite the Old Taxi Park, says although metallic and wooden cutlery holders look classy and modern, plastic ones last longer and are up to the standard of most kitchens.
“Metallic and wooden holders are vulnerable to water. One has to dry the cutlery before placing them there. If this is not done, the metal will rust, while the wood will rot,†Ramera says.
The cost of cutlery holders largely depends on their make. At Ebenezer, plastic holders cost sh4,500, wooden ones sh6,000, while the metallic ones cost sh7,500.
Other shops in Kampala sell the holders between sh3,500 and sh10,000, depending on where one shops.
