I was shy about meeting a stranger but I was determined to win her heart. I wanted to arrive at the venue before her but I lost my way. When I finally found the place, she was already seated.
She looked beautiful as she welcomed me.
She said she was 23 years old. When I told her I was 25, she laughed saying I looked 20. When I told her I am a graduate, she asked whether I was already working. I told her I was not.
At one time I pecked her on the cheek and she exclaimed. I asked for her contact but she said it was too early. I apologised then asked her to be my girlfriend. She asked why I had failed to find a girlfriend while still at campus and I said I wanted to do away with books first.
She then asked about my HIV status. I told her I was negative and if she wanted to prove it we could go for another test together.
She suggested that we leave Choma. After exchanging contacts we went our separate ways.
What did you find most appealing?
She has a nice smile and accent.
Something you found disappointing?
She goes clubbing and yet I do not.
What next?
I think we can settle for casual friendship.

There was nothing unusual about how I prepared for the date. I believe in being simple. I was there first and as I sipped my soda, he arrived. He did not look bad after all. He asked if I was expecting a person like him and I said yes.
He complimented my looks and asked me to stand up so he could observe my figure. When I stood, he said: “You have a nice figure.â€
He ordered the same brand of soda I was drinking and I realised he had not made up his mind on what to drink.
Even when I asked for a different brand, he ordered for the same. I told him he should make his own choices.
Eventually when we ordered for dinner, I chose spiced pork with chips and he went for liver and chips. I was surprised when he prayed before eating. I also prayed although I doubt if I would have done that if I was alone.
We then took turns to feed each other. When I told him I had a boyfriend, he was disappointed. He said he expected to meet someone who would become his girlfriend. I told him I was there to make friends and if he failed to get a girlfriend while at the university, he should not expect to get one easily after his studies. I told him to attend singles’ conferences if he wanted to meet girls who are searching for lovers.
What were his strengths?
He is confident and caring.
And the weaknesses?
He kept talking even while chewing and he likes blowing his own trumpet.
What would you do if he invited you for another date?
I would go, but only if I was not busy.
