By Miles Rwamiti THE search is on for Miss Nkumba! Riding on the theme ‘Catwalk on waves; Gold and Platinum’, the Miss Nkumba 2005/6 beauty contest will be held at Imperial Resort Hotel, Entebbe, on November 12.
Paul Lubanga, the Nkumba University social affairs minister and member of the organizing committee, recently said the event will be unlike any previous ones held at the campus.
He said the pageant, which will be about beauty and intelligence, is aimed at protecting the image of the university, which has been tainted in previous beauty pageants.
The winner will promote charity causes such as HIV/AIDS awareness, among others, which the current Miss Nkumba, Jackie Kityo, has been promoting. The top prize up for grabs is a brand new Corsa with a personalized number plate. The first runner up will take home a brand new computer and the second a home theater.
Bebe Cool, Ngoni, Sweet Kid, Rud Boy Devoh, Bobi Wine and the Firebase Crew are some of the artists lined up to perform.
The deadline for registration is 18th October. “So far 17 girls have already registered and ready to tussle for the car,” said Laura Akiiki, who is in charge of the contestants.
The pageant will be officially launched at the university, after which training will take off.
Club Volts, Imperial Resort and K.K Beach are the event’s main sponsors.
The winner shall also be the first face of Club Volts. Other sponsors include Victoria Flowers and S&S Internet cafe.
