Hundreds of Christian leaders attended an exclusive dinner with the renowned American preacher T D Jakes on Tuesday evening.

The dinner organised by the office of the first lady took place at the Speke Resort Munyonyo and was also attended by the Prime Minister of Uganda, Prof Apolo Nsibambi and Bishop Luke Orombi The archbishop of the Church of Uganda.

Beat Bisangwa, who was the MC, was so excited that she kept pouring praises on Bishop Jakes assuring him that his name was a household one in Uganda.
“I cannot believe I am sitting in the same room with Bishop T D Jakes,” she said. Jakes told the gathering that his predecessors longed to come to a place like Uganda. He said he felt honoured to have been invited.

He encouraged the gathering to look beyond their mistakes, adding that for 47 years, he has been digging below the trash in his life, but has just started discovering the treasure God hid in him.

He urged Christians to change their perspective about themselves and discover why God created them in such a time as this. He affirmed that no one is a biological mistake, and that each one of us had a purpose for living in this present time.
“Don’t rely on people around you because they may not have the confidence to applaud you when they see the good coming out of you,” he said.

Jakes, who flew in on a private jet was on his way to Kenya. He promised to speak well about Uganda when he next visited the White House.

He said he had Ugandans working on his staff and that they had represented Uganda very well.
The meeting was closed by Pastor Robert Kayanja of Rubaga Miracle Centre who prayed that Uganda should not return to her ways of the past.
