ATwo principal passes scored in A’ level is all it takes to gain eligibility for admission to university through the direct entry scheme. Ann Mugerwa, the Kyambogo University academic registrar, says since you scored principal passes in physics and biology, you can apply for courses like bachelor of science with education, library and information science and records and archives management among others.

But to secure a vacancy, Mugerwa advises that you look for universities that are not so competitive since your subject combination weight is low. You can also begin with a diploma and upgrade later.

QI completed a Bachelor of Commerce in 1997 from an Indian university. I would like to enroll for a master’s degree but I have lost my original degree transcript. How do I enroll for my masters? Allen.
AUniversities require a student to present certified copies of academic transcripts to be admitted for masters or PhD programmes. You need to have your transcript copies certified by your former Indian University.

But most universities ask for the original transcript to certify the photocopies. You should find out this. If they need the original, go ahead and get a police letter explaining the loss of your original transcript. Then the university will be able to print for you another transcript.

QIf you take BCM/Econ at A’ Level and score principal passes, which courses can you apply for at a higher level, preferably to become a job maker? Eria
Anyone can become a job maker if they have basic entrepreneurial skills, no matter the course they studied at university. Nevertheless, if you passed well, your combination could qualify you for courses like nursing, pharmacy, dental surgery, medicine, agricultural land use and management, agribusiness management, agricultural and rural innovation, education, geological resources management, conservation biology and environmental science among others at Makerere University. Some of these courses are also offered at Mbarara, Gulu and Kyambogo universities.

Q I am a diploma holder of secretarial studies working in a busy secondary school. I want to pursue a degree in administration and secretarial science at Kyambogo University. Is it possible for me to do distance learning. HCK
AKyambogo’s acting academic registrar, Ann Mugerwa, says the only distance learning programme available is for students pursuing a diploma in education (Primary) external. Thus, the only option for you is to register on the evening programme if admitted.

QI have a second class diploma in procurement and logistics management from Makerere University Business School. I want to do a degree at Kyambogo under the same course. Will I be able to go for only two years?

AKyambogo University vice chancellor Prof. Isaiah Ndiege says the university is yet to have a two-year bachelor’s degree course in procurement. Since you have a second class diploma, he says you are eligible for admission, but you have to complete the course’s academic load, which is designed for three academic years.
