THE third Annual Africa Breast Cancer Conference is slated for today and tomorrow at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala. “We are working with Princess Nikky Foundation and the Ministry of Health to organise the conference,†the chairperson of the Uganda Women’s Cancer Support Organisation, Speciosa Kabwegyere, says.
Participants in this year’s conference, under the theme, Africa Unite in Action: Strengthening Regional Breast Cancer Programmes through Integration, will include advocates, breast cancer experts, policy makers, breast cancer survivors and health professionals from Uganda, Kenya, Malawi and South Africa.
Kabwegyere says the aim is to create awareness and understanding of breast cancer in Africa as well as share experiences from breast cancer survivors to help build more support among the African women.
This conference will be the third since it was introduced in 2008. The first conference was held in Abuja, Nigeria and the second in Cairo, Egypt (2009).
