Tenth ‘kisanja’
The Hoima Women MP, Beatrice Benkya, not only knows how to sing soprano but also to make her point. On Tuesday she overheard her colleagues lamenting that they had over six opponents against them. Seeing them very devastated Benkya asked them: “Are you giving up? My dears, I am going nowhere. To where? I am here to stay. Do I look old? If elderly people like Henry Kajura are still serving how many more years can I serve? I am here to stay so I am back to the grassroots and I will come back—for third or tenth term!

Waste of time
President Yoweri Museveni has never understood why people ‘waste time’ on alchol.
Last week, he told the people of Nakaseke in Luweero that in his youthful days a friend invited him for a drinking spree and that is when he tasted the ‘bitter alcohol’ for the first and last time. As he watched his friend enjoy the bitter stuff he asked him what joy he was getting out of it. “To my surprise my friend told me I could only feel the joy of the liquor after I got drunk!” Museveni has ever since concluded that many boozing is a waste of precious time. Maybe he would have changed his mind if he had tried again and again since practice makes perfect.

Babu’s advice
Former minister Captain Francis Babu has good advice for the youth who despise some jobs. Officiating at the Commonwealth Day symposium at MUBS on Monday, he astonished students when he told them that he used to wash cars as a source of income. “I enjoyed my job so much that when I got a scholarship to train as a pilot, I first though of how much I would miss my job.” That is great counselling especially when jobs are hard to come by!

Mallinga irked
The vice-chairperson of the local government accounts committee, Johnson Mallinga, is not easy to fool. On Tuesday he was irked by the explanation by Nakasongola officials about the fuel receipts which were found to be forged.
The receipts were issued much later after the fuel had been taken. Mallinga said: “I have learnt district officials' tricks. You hurriedly went to the petrol station and induced them to get you these forged papers whose dates are a glaring testimony of deceit. Aren’t you ashamed?” There was no answer.
