Smart Nsibambi Prof. Apolo Nsibambi knows how to read people’s minds. While touring the Mehta Group show room at UMA, the Group’s regional director Suresh Sharma kept explaining how the company was doing well without hitting the nail on the head. After realising that the man had something else he wanted to say but not not finding it easy to say it, Nsibambi asked him, “you are explaining all these, what do you want?”
Sharma replied, “You know...” What do you want?” Nsibambi asked again. After spending three minutes asking him, Sharma eventually said, “land to grow more cane.” Oh!
Cunning big fish Owners of big companies in Uganda know how to advertise their businesses and demonstrated this while showing round Prime minister Apolo Nsibambi. Although there were over 170 companies at UMA, the big men decided to take Nsibambi only to companies that belong to top manufacturers leaving many wondering whether the exhibition was only for “top manufacturers.” “These men are clever, see the companies where they are directing the premier to. Isn’t he also supposed to see what other small companies do?” one exhibitor wondered after Nsibambi bypassed his stand.
Losers’ boss After failing to make it to parliament this term, former Bubulo West MP, Kamana Wesonga is now called ‘chairman of the losers’ by his former constituents. At the burial of one Charles Kamuli in Manafa, the MC could not spare Kamana and invited him to speak to the mourners. “Politics is funny we shouldn’t go without giving a chance to the losers’ chairman, honourable Kamana a change to speak, you never know,” he said. Although Kamana laughed it off he commented, “I am still battling it out, pray for me.” You have our prayers, dear Kamana.
Gerald at UMA After disappearing from the public scene for so long, former finance minister Gerald Ssendaula finally came out and went shopping. “These days I carry things in a kaveera (polythene bag)” he said as he showed Prime minister Apolo Nsibambi who was surprised to meet the former ‘money money’ man at the trade fair.
