Schools body wants sponsor
BASKETBALL - The National Schools Basketball Association, the body that governs local schools’ tournaments, is in search of a sponsor for their championship due in May this year. The top executive of the association has held several meetings to devise means on how to win sponsorship from the business fraternity after struggling to run the programmes for the past five years without a sponsor.
Jinja teachers fit for referee’s job
RUGBY - Fifteen teachers from schools in Jinja passed the rugby referees and coaching beginners’ course in Jinja over the weekend. The course was conducted by international (IRB) instructors Herbert Wafula and John Musoke. The two are also local coaches with uganda telecom Kobs and Cente Rhinos respectively. Rugby development officer Ramsey Olinga said the trainees have increased the number of referees to counter the rising number of the playing population.
Ngetta PS top in zonal meet
ATHLETICS - Ngetta Girls collected 440 points to win the Ngetta Zone primary schools athletics championships.
Cura PS came second with 370, ahead of Ongura (326) in third. Over fifty athletes were selected to represent the zone in the forthcoming championships due soon. Truth, the only private school in the zone came second last with 238.
