  • UGANDA Golf Club (UGC) has extended its Bududa victims’ fundraising drive to tomorrow when the club holds the weekly Club Night competition.

    Douglas Mazune
reports that last weekend golf clubs across the country held tournaments to raise funds and other items to donate to Bududa landslide victims.

“Uganda Golf Club decided to extend the deadline because more items were still coming in. We are yet to hear from Mbarara, Lugazi and Kinyara,” Uganda Golf Union secretary Johnson Omollo said. UGC last raised sh2m and an assortment of items.

The union requested all affiliate clubs to hold fundraising events last weekend in support of thousands of people who were displaced by landslides that hit the new district two weeks ago. Hundreds were left dead and the search for the bodies is still on.

Omollo said they had already received packages of items from Jinja, Tororo, Entebbe, Fort Portal, Arua and Uganda Golf Club. Jinja raised sh400,000.

UGU president John Kisembo and his executive will next week travel to Mbale where they will hand over the donation to the Red Cross. Balton Uganda, through UGC, has offered mosquito nets worth sh2.9m.

“We are very happy with the response,” Omollo said.

Kisembo will also inspect the Mbale golf course that is under refurbishment.
