JACKSON “Action” Asiku expected his nomination for the prestigious Uganda telecom/USPA Personality of the Year award, writes James Bakama.

“I deserve it and I can assure you this might not be the last time you see me walking down the red carpet,” promised the boxer who was nominated by sports scribes for winning a world title last year.

Asiku, in November, became the fifth Ugandan to win a world title when he knocked out Mexico’s Heriberto Ruiz.

His confidence is understandable after a brilliant year that also had him scoop two USPA monthly awards.

He is contesting for the big prize with athlete Moses Kipsiro, footballer Brian Umony and local rugby champions MTN Heathens.

Kassim “The Dream” Ouma was the last boxer to win the annual award.

The uganda telecom sponsored gala at Hotel Africana will also have monthly winners recognised, besides outstanding sportsmen.

Former Cranes skipper Jimmy Kirunda will receive the USPA legendary award.
