THE sports state minister Charles Bakkabulindi has called for transparency in sports administration so as to attract the corporate world.

Bakkabulindi made the call at the launch of the 2010 Bamburi Rugby Super Series tournament at Lugogo yesterday. Bamburi and Hima cement committed sh275m to the tournament.

The super series is a competition that brings together teams from Kenya, Tanzania and hosts Uganda. This year’s edition will run from April 24-May 22.

“I salute rugby leaders in Uganda. Just less than ten years, you can see the speed we are growing at and I’m confident we shall win this year’s edition,” Bakkabulindi stated.

“I was surprised that rugby has developed upcountry to the extent that a school like Comboni College from Lira can beat Namilyango which is Kampala based,” Bakkabulindi stated.

He added that the government intends to increase on the sports budget but needs more support from corporate organizations to be able to identify and develop talents like it’s in the European countries.

Uganda franchise chairman who is also the rugby union vice chairman Foxy Ojambo said that the union is committed to ensuring that the game’s standards and players’ welfare are lifted.

He named Jonathan Kamukama and Henry Musoke as managers for Uganda’s two Franchise teams Victoria and Rwenzori respectively.
The winner will receive sh7.5m, runners-up sh6.3m while the third and fourth will take sh4.5m and sh2m respectively.

Last year Uganda’s Rwenzori finished third and bagged a sh3m cash prize.
