Isabirye is now full URA coach
SOCCER - URA FC officials have elevated assistant coach Alex Isabirye to the position of head coach replacing Moses Basena. The decision comes two weeks after the club officials agreed to send Basena into a two months’ leave following URA’s humiliating 4-0 defeat by Zambian Champions Zanaco. URA bowed out 4-1 on aggregate in the CAF Champions League. URA are the local league champions.
Kenyans for K’la EA tourney
CHESS - Eight Kenyan chess players have confirmed participation in the East African Chess championship slated for April 2-5 in Kampala. Isaac Babu, Kenya’s FIDE arbiter and also a member of KCB Chess Club confirmed the Kenyans’ participation in a communication to the Uganda Chess Federation. Defending champion Harold Wanyama will face stiff competition from Kenya’s Ben Magana, Ben Nguku as well as local competition from the likes of in-form Patrick Kawuma.
44 pass referee course in Gulu
SOCCER - A total of 44 participants out of 73 that attended referees beginners course in Lira have passed. The one week course drew participants from neighbouring districts of Oyam, Pader, Dokolo and Apac. The course was conducted by Edirisa Kiwanuka while Ali Waiswa was examiner. There were also courses in Sironko and Mukono.
