ENTEBBE Mongers narrowly escaped losing their fourth game this season with 11-10 win over hosts Hima Impis in the Nile Special Premier Rugby League game played on Wednesday at Makerere ground.
Emma Sserunjogi gave Mongers the lead with a try but Impis replied in the same fashion through Marlon Ondiegi to level the score at 5-5 at half time.
A penalty by Raymond Odokonyero put the Mongers 8-5 ahead early in the second half but Impis, boosted by the home crowd, mounted pressure that resulted into a try by Denis Mullo to go top 10-8.
Mongers applied their physical tactics which earned them a penalty that was converted by Adrian Wasswa to give the visitors the narrow victory.
“We played well but were weak in scrums, that is why we lost,†Impis captain Dan Obote said but promised to avenge the defeat in the return leg tomorrow in Entebbe.
Heathens will seek their ninth consecutive win when they face Toyota Buffaloes at Kyadondo. Pirates host Nile at 3pm while uganda telecom Kobs take on Rhinos at 5pm with both games at Kampala.
