UTTA targets mass talent
TENNIS - The new Uganda Table Tennis Association executive is to put emphasis on turning game into a lifestyle sport on top of concentrating on mass talent production. Robert Ssemakula, the new secretary of the association disclosed the plan, which he said was ambitious but achievable, after being elected into office recently. The executive is headed by Dennis Galabuzi with David Akena as the treasurer.
Makerere vows to revive game
CHESS - Makerere Chess Club has sworn to revive their hard earned glory that they enjoyed after the 2008 season when they won the national league title for the first time in a long time. The club finished in fifth position with just 28 points, 29 behind table leaders Mulago Kings in 2009. After the club lost among their stars Olympiad Harold Wanyama- Uganda’s seed one, the former champions could not catch their breath as they stayed a depleted.
MAK Open due March 12-14
GAMES - The Makerere basketball and volleyball tournaments are due March 12-14 at the university grounds and Pool Courts. The annual events that act as season openers attract teams countrywide. “This year we shall not have secondary schools as has been the norm unless they are ready to play with clubs,†said games official John Bosco Bananuka.
