Dhaira is rated as Uganda's best goalie

By Fred Kaweesi

UGANDA Revenue Authority will battle in the CAF Champions League and attempt to revive their faltering league title-defence without the experienced hands of Abbey Dhaira.

Club chairman David Selebe is confident his squad can survive without celebrated goalkeeper Dhaira who has moved to Congolese club AS Vita for $22,000 (sh42m) that could increase if he is signed by a European club.

“We accepted the initial fee of $22,000 and we expect to benefit more from his subsequent transfer,” Selebe hinted after concluding all transfer formalities with Vita president Pchoma Wendi Saleh in Kampala.

Although Selebe acknowledges Dhaira’s profound goalkeeping abilities, he does feel there is sufficient strength in depth within the club’s goalkeeping ranks to spur the team. Mulindwa Muwonge is the latest youngster to have risen to the challenge of replacing the influence of Dhaira.

“His move will not be a blow for us because we barely fielded him last season because of the groin injury that is still disturbing him. We have enough cover to lift the club this season,” Selebe pointed.

URA, who currently trail table leaders Express FC by 10 points in the league, will confront Zambian giants Zanaco in the preliminary stages of the Champions league in February.
