THE wait is finally over! After traversing 36 destinations on its 70-day tour across Africa, the highly-coveted World Cup trophy will arrive at 7pm today at Entebbe Airport to a fascinating reception.

On hand to receive the prestigious solid-gold trophy, will be a high-profile list of guests led by Minister of Education and Sports Namirembe Bitamazire.

According to Coca Cola Brand Manager Margeret Kigozi, a star-studded cast of some of Uganda’s finest traditional artists and dancers would be paraded to grant the function the glamour it deserves.

“We want it to be the best reception of all,” Kigozi stated.

The trophy will then make its way to Serena Hotel where President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will receive it, feel it, a day before its public viewing at Lugogo Cricket Oval on Sunday.

FIFA regulations governing this tour allow only African heads of state to touch the most prestigious trophy.

Over ten artists, including Bobi Wine, GNL, have been lined up to treat the thousands of ticket fans expected to throng Lugogo to a bounty of celebration that will also include the opportunity of taking souvenir photos with the trophy. They will also be able to view special 3-D movies showcasing memorable moments of the World Cup and participate in interactive displays.

The four-month tour which kicked off in Egypt on September 24, 2009, was developed through a partnership between FIFA and Coca-Cola, who are FIFA partners and one of the association’s longest-standing corporate partners.

The first leg of the tour will end in Cape Town, South Africa on December 3, 2009.
