Rwanda Open next Byamukama

A hat-trick of Uganda Golf Union stroke-play championships that Vincent Byamukama completed in the Kinyara Open last weekend has reignited his quest for international success.

Byamukama, who has already resumed training, will travel to Kigali five days before the Rwanda Open due November 19-21.

The Entebbe golfer who will defend his title in Rwanda’s premier tournament is more concerned about Kigali’s tough course than opponents.

“I have to go early and have enough practice. Almost all holes are surrounded by water. It’s a very difficult course I need to get familiar with it again,” Byamukama warned.

The national champion has already embarked on a search for $1500 to facilitate his week-long stay in Rwanda. The financially constrained golfer is even willing to operate at half the budget by getting cheap accommodation.

“You can’t just win the Rwanda Open. You have to prepare for it very well. Rwanda and Burundi players can’t be taken for granted on their course,” Byamukama stated.

A team of other Ugandan golfers have also expressed interest in making the Rwanda trip.
