A sh2m bounty in this weekend’s Tororo Open has sucked in four high ranking Kenyan professional golfers.
David Odhiambo, Dismas Ndiza, Kopan Timbe and Peter Mwangi are expected to arrive in Tororo tomorrow to get a feel of the course before tee off on Saturday. “We are raiding Tororo.
It’s going to be tough,” Odhiambo said.
Ugandan pros Deo Akope, Dennis Anguyo, Stephen Kasaija and Godfrey Mande will battle for a share of the cash too. The winner will pocket sh0.8m. Tororo Cement, the sponsor of the event, has staked the cash.
The amateur stroke-play category is the main event of the Uganda Golf Union (UGU) sanctioned 36 holes event. There will be prizes for the women and net categories as well.
Meanwhile, Jinja Golf Club’s teenage star Brian Tolit has landed sponsorship from Nile Breweries starting with the Tororo Open. Nile also sponsors three-time Uganda Open champion Stephen Birungi.
Akope is, meanwhile, is the new coach of the amateur ladies team. He takes over from Charles Yokwe, who died in a road accident last month.
Uganda Ladies Golf Union (ULGU) boss Alice Owori, appointed Akope saying she is confident he will deliver.
