Lack of direct flights between Uganda and Asia and a well-documented investment opportunity programme from the trade ministry are discouraging Asian investors from coming to Uganda, a diplomat has said.
Dr. Tan Hian-Tsin, Uganda’s consul to Singapore, said unless the Government addressed these issues, it will be hard to convince investors, especially from Singapore, to come and set up businesses in Uganda.
“We need to act now. The trade ministry has to come out with well documented proposals of where to invest, and should look at agriculture as their first option,†said the consul, who is also a board member of Crocodile International, a parent company of Phenix Logistics, a fabrics company.
He said that at often times, though the government has always called upon investors, the lack of a good project proposals from the ministry of which investment should be made is becoming a problem.
