THE second Young Achievers Awards have been launched in Kampala, with over sh100m up for grabs.
The awards, an annual national competition, targets youth business development, social entrepreneurs and agents of social change, who have distinguished themselves in creativity, innovation and service to community.
The competition is open to economically-active people aged between 18 and 35 years.
It is organised by the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UNCCI) in conjunction with Tetea Uganda, a local media consultancy firm.
“This year’s competition is expected to attract 5,000 nominees. Out of these, 112 finalists will be chosen to compete for over sh100m,†said the chamber president, Oliver Kigongo, at the launch at the Kampala Serena Hotel on Monday.
The event is sponsored by the Vision Group, MTN, GTZ, Touch FM, NTV, NBS TV, UBC TV and Hima Cement.
In last year’s awards, over sh38m was won by 37 youth.
Kigongo said the awards aim at enhancing innovations among the young generation.
“This is a flexible age group that is essential in sustaining the country’s economic progress.â€
The awards director, Awel Uwihanganye, said interested youth can pick forms from Tetea offices on Bukoto Crescent or download them from their website, wwww.youngachievers.ug.
Nominations will run from May 10 to June 12.
