“FOR an employee to succeed at any workplace, she needs to be professional in whatever she is doing,” commented one expert.

Therefore, even if your employer underlooks you, you have to maintain a good work ethic and attitude.

According to Ingrid Naturinda, a consultant and advisory advocate, due to lack of commitment and a good attitude towards work, many employees under-perform. This leads some to be sacked or face disciplinary action.

“Work ethic is essential for any employee at any level. The sooner it becomes part of an employee’s expressions, the quicker the employee will be on the road to success,” says Naturinda.

She explains that work ethic is the belief in doing what it takes to complete a goal appropriately and successfully.

Naturida indicates that maintaining good work ethics sometimes requires a lot of extra effort and sacrifice on an employee’s part. “Sometimes it feels like you never leave the work.

“If you can’t do that, you may need to look for a new job,” she stresses.
Naturida says when a worker fails to maintain good work ethics, they will sooner than later face effects of having bad ones, which they won’t like.

She advises employees to change their attitude through developing a clear understanding of what they want to achieve and figuring out what they want to their career.

“One’s driving desires should be well stated. Whether it is money, success, easy work or enjoyable work, they must be clearly spelt out.”

She adds that when an employee understands what it takes to work in certain field and is realistic in his or her goals and purposes, maintaining good work ethics and attitude is easy to do.

“Do you have the required skills? Evaluate your abilities honestly and ask yourself how you can gain the necessary missing skills,” adds Naturinda.
