A MECHANICAL and electrical industrial installations firm has started fabricating shipping containers into self-contained houses.

The move will ease the country’s housing needs. Keltron Development Services Uganda Limited, located in Munyonyo in Kampala, has so far made several temporary houses from shipping containers for different firms.

Wilbert Warom, the stores manager, said they install all facilities like those required in any other house. “The client brings his/her own container and we modify it according to their specifications.”

The container, Warom explained, can also be used as an office, workshop or medical unit. Warom said the containers were movable, giving a chance to people with temporary contract jobs to shift with them to wherever they want to relocate.
