HIGHLAND Heights, a new real estate firm, has entered the market with promises to provide low-cost homes to the young employed and middle-income earners.

Ronnie Kananura, the firm’s director, in an interview at their Kimathi Avenue offices in Kampala recently, said their aim is to help the country attain its millennium development goal of improving lives of slum-dwellers.

“Our estates will have recreational and health facilities with access to electricity, roads and water infrastructure,” he said.

“We have land in Entebbe, Mityana, Buloba, and Kira (Wakiso),” he added.
Chris Kyerere, also a director at the firm, said, “We will provide our clients with a complete package inclusive of modern house plans at affordable prices.”

The firm comes at a time when Uganda lacks about 1.6 million housing units, while Kampala alone needs more than 100,000 decent houses.

With a 3% growth rate per annum, Uganda’s population explosion will have created a one million housing unit deficit in Kampala alone unless the rate at which houses are coming on the market increases.
