FUEL supply in the country could dip in the next two–three weeks due to reduced imports.
According to Julius Rubagamya, the eastern region customs manager, fuel tankers entering the country have decreased.
“Over 600 fuel tankers have been entering the country through Malaba, but our records show that this figure has reduced to 550,†he explained.
For reasons yet to be established, fuel imports are now picked from Mombasa and not Kisumu and Eldoret as has been the case.
Rubagamya said according to their counterparts in Kenya, there are administration issues at Kisumu and Eldoret that need to be solved. “We have sent our team in Kenya to find out what these are and they can be solve,†he said.
Rubagamya said the reduction in fuel imports brought in the country will not cause a fuel crisis.
But the price of a litre of petrol has risen from sh2,300 to sh2,600 in Kampala in the past few days.
