LEADERS of Moyo and Adjumani districts have urged presidents Yoweri Museveni and Salva Kiir of Southern Sudan to consider building Nimule hydro power since the Nyagak power plant is taking long.

“We the people of Madi sub-region propose the developing of Nimule Hydro Power for Dfile subcounty that borders Uganda and the people of Southern Sudan,” Iku Dolo, the Moyo district chairman said.

Dolo read a memorandum to the two presidents during their visit to resolve a border dispute between the people of Moyo and Kajo-Keji at mountain Jale, last week.

“Uganda and Southern Sudan should encourage genuine ways of dialogue at district levels so that any local conflict can be resolved through these establishments,” he added.

To ease communication and transport between the communities of Madi and Southern Sudan, the leaders from the two districts recommended the tarmacking of the Atyak-Nimule road and Moyo-Kajo-Keji road to Juba.

“This will avoid underdeveloped corridors likely to happen to the Madi sub-region and Kajo-Keji-Juba area in southern Sudan,” Dolo added.

The memorandum also highlighted the issue of several southern Sudanese authorities imposing exorbitant taxes on Ugandans, especially the Madi, who cross into southern Sudan.

“These taxes charged for entry into the two countries should be harmonised to avoid quarrels between the two communities and instead promote brotherly relationship between them,” the memo added.

President Museveni said Nyagak power plant would be ready by July 2010 to provide adequate power to the whole of West Nile Region. He added that the tarmacking of the Gulu-Atyak-Bibia-Nimule road and Atyak-Adjumani-Laropi-Moyo road will commence soon.
