TIM Berners-Lee, the inventor of the web and founder of the Web Foundation, visits Uganda next week.

According to the foundation website, he will be coming to make ‘an important announcement’ and explore how the web is and could be empowering people in Africa.

He also wants to understand the barriers that people face and how to rectify them to enable them use the web as a tool for improving lives.

Berners-Lee is expected to attend a meeting in which the foundation will address university students from across the country at Makerere University’s main auditorium.
Prior to that, he will also be expected to meet members of Uganda’s Linux User Group.

He will be accompanied by the WF staffers Stephane Boyera and Daniel Dardailler, and Board member Rosemary Leith.

Tim Berners-Lee last week gave a keynote speech at the Internet Governance Forum meeting in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

Together with his entourage he will also proceed to Kenya on the same mission to talk with local developers, entrepreneurs, mobile service providers, non-governmental organizations, users and potential partners.
