AIG Uganda is to change its name to Chartis, effective November 1. The development comes after AIU Holdings, the mother company of AIG Uganda, announced in July it would re-brand its worldwide operations to Chartis.

“AIG Inc. announced in July that it would change the name of its global short and accident and health operations to Chartis,” Alex Wanjohi, the AIG Uganda managing director, said in a statement last week.

“All the affected AIG firms are in the process of converting their identities and branding to align themselves with the Chartis brand. The AIG operations in Uganda are no different,” he said.

Wanjohi assured clients that the change of the company name would not impact on its policies. He said the firm would continue to pay claims and take on new businesses.

“We wish to assure you that all the current policies you have with AIG Uganda will remain valid and continue to be underwritten by Chartis Uganda,” he said.

Wanjohi said all policies issued under AIG brands and logos would stay valid for the term of contract. “Chartis Uganda will not reissue policies and schedules in respect of existing policies until the next contractual renewal date.”

AIG is among the top firms after writing sh22b worth of premiums in 2007 and sh25b in 2008.
