PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has said tougher laws will be enacted against dealers in counterfeit goods.
The President said under the new law, fake goods culprits would be jailed, highly penalised or blacklisted from investing in Uganda, while such merchandise would be destroyed.
The Museveni was recently speaking during the Presidential Investor Round Table meeting at Speke Resort Munyonyo.
He was reacting to complaints from the local investors about the presence of fake goods on the market.
Museveni said the law would not only protect local industries but also consumers from using products that are not certified by the Uganda National
Bureau of Standards.
He said the future of Africa and Uganda in particular can no longer depend on agriculture.
Museveni said the Government had played its role in attracting investments.
He observed that Africa was already disadvantaged due to the political balkanisation.
