  • The Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET) has started registering Ugandans who will represent the country at the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) next month in Tunis, Tunisia, writes Davis Weddi.

The conference will seek better ways of exploiting, controlling and managing information and communications technologies (ICT).

The first phase of the summit was held in Geneva, Switzerland, in December 2003.

Previously, Uganda has registered poor representation at such global events, but with several meetings about WSIS recently, the country will send a large delegation.

Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) technical chief, Patrick Mwesigwa, said, “We are prepared to register as many people as possible.”

He said special interest groups including the Government, civil society and the private sector would participate.

Mwesigwa said UCC will take an active role in leading Uganda to the WSIS. UCC will facilitate WOUGNET to exhibit at the summit.
