HERE YOU ARE: Mungoma handing over the satellite dish to Joan Amaniyo recently

By Mikaili Sseppuya

Multi-choice Uganda Ltd has donated a satellite dish worth $200 to the Uconnect Schools project.

Joan Amaniyo of the Ministry of Education and Uconnect project co-ordinator said the dish would enable the project get connected to the Internet via satellite and boost information communication technology (ICT) in rural schools and sorrounding areas.

“The dish will provide the connection to the satellite so there is access to the global network even where there is no phone line like the MTN fibre optical cable,” she said.

Amaniyo said the donation would help students and the residents in ICT training and examinations.

She said the project would be sustained through extending services like email and surfing to the surrounding communities during the time when the school will not be using the computers to cut operational costs.

Multi-Choice marketing manager Peter Mungoma said the firm was supporting the Ucconect project because it benefited the rural people by bridging the digital gap between them and the world.
