THANK YOU: Zaramba receives a box of condoms from Okongo and Reis

UGANDANS use at most five million condoms per month, the national director of health services, Dr. Sam Zaramba, has said.

Zaramba said a minimum of 60 million pieces of condoms are needed annually in the country’s effort to fight HIV/AIDS.

Receiving one million condoms from the AIDS Health Foundation and Uganda Cares on Tuesday, Zaramba said currently, the country has sufficient quantities of condoms.

“There are usually temporary shortages in some districts but the population should not be alarmed. Condoms are available and should be put to use,” Zaramba said.

He said with the importation of a condom-testing machine, the government will ensure condoms are accessed at all levels.

Zaramba received the condoms from the AHF vice-president, Peter Reis and Uganda Cares director Bernard Okongo at the Uganda Cares secretariat office in Nakasero.

A Uganda AIDS indicator survey showed a drop in the HIV/AIDS prevalence rate from 6.5% to 6.4%.
