THE Miss Uganda UK organising team chose the top 15 contestants who responded to the selection on February 15 at Club Volts in London.
The criteria and the interview process for the contestants who were selected for the grand final was reportedly thorough. The girls had to meet international beauty contest requirements.
The chosen top 15 contestants will be going through further training and development by J M Promotions, a UK-based company entrusted with grooming them, in preparation for the grand finale to be held on June 13, 2009, at the famous Troxy (which also doubles as the official venue for Miss England) at 490 Commercial Road, London.
The event was reportedly well attended by the Ugandan community in the UK.
“The audience was extremely pleased with the quality of the contestants were chosen and with the judges’ decision as all contestants represented the Miss Uganda UK 2009 theme of “Promoting Ugandan beauty, culture and heritage,” says Joyce Church, the director, Miss Uganda UK.
The girls spotted sexy and elegant red tops designed by Ugandan designer Brenda Maraka, the official Miss Uganda UK fashion house and representative in Kampala. Their make up was done by Style Esteem, reknown London make-up artists.
The judges who chose the contestants that night was Sola Oyebade, the director of Mahogany Models which is Europe's largest modellingagency for models of colour. The same agency will sign the winner of the contest up for a year's modelling contract.
The night was punctuated by performances from UK-based Ugandan artistes such as Fyonna Nsubuga, Mc Moseh, Paddy Dee, Rasta Soki and Tazz.
To strengthen the contest, the Miss Uganda UK organising team has partnered with the Miss Uganda franchise holder for Miss World to ensure the winner takes part in the Miss Uganda contest.
