  • EDITOR—I am one of the many concerned residents of Ibanda village, Bugoye subcounty in Kasese district. I am very upset about how electricity is distributed. The village is also home to the oldest hydro-power generating stations, Mubuku, for over 30 years and yet the local people there have never had power.

It is only the Kilembe mines employees and a few homes who are beneficiaries.

The village is also home two other power-generating plants on River Mubuku, including the newly commissioned one. But what surprises me beyond imagination is that places many kilometres away like Kisinga and Bwera up to the border with the DRC already have power!

It is logical that Ibanda, Kyanya, Bugoye and Maliba should have been the first beneficiaries and at a very subsidised rate.

Two years down the road there is no sign of this ever happening apart from the usual empty promises. Is the energy ministry taking our long cooperation with the Government for granted? It is as if we are not good and productive enough to have power!
