EDITOR—In the past three months, several couples have maimed and even killed each other as a result of marital problems. We read about people who kill their partners for imagining being cheated. At times relationships can fail because of persistent mistrust in each other and failing to respect personal freedoms.

If we all agree that communication is important in any relationship, then we must also agree that there is need for correct communication based on timing.

African traditions are very clear when it comes to issues of marriage. for example, bride price was meant to make a relationship respectable and valuable. On the other hand, if there was a good reason for one to end the relationship, the bride price was refunded although this was rare. But when it happened, people were allowed to remarry and there was no reason to think of murder.
