Kira must not be entangled in Kampala’s chaos

EDITOR—The creation of Mengo municipality has been received with mixed feelings, most especially if Government is proposing to cut off some parts of Kampala and add them to Lubaga division and pay back by giving some parts to Kampala.

My area of concern is kira town council, one of the youngest town councils. Kira has a population of about 100,000 people.

I am very disappointed that our town council is going to be ‘condemned’ by being joined to Kampala. Young as it is, it has managed to deliver important services to the people.

Here are some examples:
-It has managed to construct a health centre in all its seven parishes.

-At least every parish has a tarmacked road and opened up more roads linking it to its neighbours.

-It has managed to acquire a motor grader, hence improving accessibility of the roads.

-It has constructed markets for towns like Bweyogerere and Kireka and is planning for the rest of the parishes.

-There are more services this town council has provided to its people in just a period of six years.

If Kira is joined to Kampala which is riddled with the chaos of corruption and recklessness, it will definitely kill its development. Look at areas in Kampala like Kisenyi, Kivulu Kalerwe, Kamwokya, Bwaise, Naguru and many others and compare the sanitation of such areas to Kira Town Council.

Who would like to join such confusion? Which place would one want to live in apart from Kololo? even the president wanted relief from the mess in Kampala and opted to go back to Entebbe. Save us from that monster called Kampala.
