PUPILS of Kezekiya Memorial Primary School in Kyalulangira sub-county, Rakai district, have accused their parents of poor sanitation in their homes.

This was in a song they presented to the water and environment minister, Maria Mutagamba, during the launch of the sanitation week at Kyakasenene village last week.

The pupils told Mutagamba that parents had turned their younger siblings’ waste into flowers littered around homes, and turned dust into mats.

“There are no latrines in our homes. When visitors want to ease themselves, they are given hoes and directed to nearby bushes,” the pupils said.

They requested the elders who attended the function to construct latrines and provide water and soap to wash hands.

Mutagamba, also the Woman MP for Rakai district, commended the children for the message and requested the residents of Kyakasenene to respond to it.

She thanked the World Vision for sensitising the residents on how to keep their homes clean, and requested the organisation to spread the message to other areas.
