  • UTODA for coaster buses

THE Uganda Taxi Operators and Drivers Association (UTODA) has started campaigns to phase out 14-seater taxis and replace them with coaster buses to reduce traffic congestion. UTODA national chairperson John Ndyomugyenyi said the campaign supports the Government policy to reduce traffic jam in the city.

Ndyomugyenyi was speaking at a road safety and insurance awareness workshop at Nsambya Sharing Hall over the weekend. The workshop was organised by UTODA in conjunction with the Uganda Insurers Association.

    LC3s want vacancies filled
The LC3 chairpersons, including those in Buikwe district, want all the vacant civil servant positions at the sub-counties filled to ensure service delivery.

The chairpersons, who were attending a NAADS meeting in Mukono Community Centre on Wednesday, complained that they were not performing as expected because of inadequate staffing.

The meeting was called to assess the impact of the NAADS programme on the community in the first quarter of this financial year.

Kasawo LC3 chairperson Badru Kafumbe pointed out that although parish chiefs were vital in mobilising residents to participate in government programmes, most of the parishes did not have them.

    ‘Do not shun army school’
Do not shun Masaka Army Primary School, the UPDF armoured brigade education officer, Capt. Frank Kampeirwe, has urged residents. “This school is not restricted.

We welcome pupils from the neighbouring areas and districts,” he said. Kampeirwe made the remarks during the party for the out-going school prefects, held at Masaka Kasijagirwa barracks on Tuesday.

He noted that the school is targeting a population of 1,000 pupils from the current 478. He, however, said the school is usually disturbed by the delayed release of UPE funds from the Government.

The headteacher, Alice Kwebiha, said academic performance had improved from two to 10 first grades in 2009.
