Ssekamanya ordaining Lubula at St. Paul Catholic Church, Mukono

THE Bishop of Lugazi Diocese, Matthias Ssekamanya, has asked Christians to shun the mushrooming religious sects in the country.

Ssekamanya argued that the sect leaders were pursuing selfish interests.
He warned the Catholics against joining the new Catholic Apostolic National Church, which opened a branch in Uganda recently.

The sect, with its headquarters in Jinja, allows priests to marry and does not allow women to become priests.

Ssekamanya noted that no one had the power to change or introduce new policies in the Catholic Church apart from the Pope.

He asked Catholics to only follow the policies and principles communicated by the Pope through his representatives like the cardinals and bishops.

Ssekamanya made the remarks on Saturday while ordaining Joseph Lubula as a deacon at St. Paul Catholic Church in Mukono district.

He asked parents to send their children to seminaries, adding that there was an increased demand for young people to be prepared for leadership in the church.

He also observed that more priests would enable the church spread the gospel more easily to combat the increasing evils in societies.
