By Luke Kagiri

THE Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Rt. Rev. Henry Luke Orombi, has called upon Ugandans to drop the culture of depending on aid and strive to be self-reliant.

“Africa is known as a begging continent and so is Uganda. I do not want this in the Anglican Church.

“We must use the available resources to transform our societies. Our country is blessed with several resources, they can help us live better lives,” Orombi said while delivering a sermon at Namukozi Church in Mityana at the end of his four-day pastoral visit to Mityana Diocese.

He said Christians must pray that God provides them with knowledge to see the available resources to support their lives.

“We want the ability to see what is around us,” he said.

During his stay in the diocese, Orombi visited Christians in different parishes in Buwekula-Mubende, Makonzi and Kiboga.

While in Kiboga, he urged Christians to make good use of the fertile land and economically improve their lives through agriculture.

Orombi also urged the Anglican Church to invest in the youth, saying they hold the future of the Church.

“I want to come back to Mityana and find a Church where babies are crying. If the Anglican Church is to grow, we must invest a lot in the young people.

“We are like the setting sun and they are the rising sun. We are here today but tomorrow we shall not be here. It will be the youth to take over our duties.” This was Orombi’s first visit to the area.

He has also visited Kigezi Mukono and Bukedi dioceses this year.
