A group of UPDF officers that completed a tank crew course at the Karama Armoured Warfare Training School in Mubende district were passed out on Sunday.

Officiating at the ceremony, President Yoweri Museveni advised the group to focus on maintaining peace and order so that there is a conducive environment for multiparty politics.

Museveni said the UPDF must be alert and ready to crush terrorists.

He asked the soldiers to value the costly equipment and guard against corruption, selling of fuel, lubricants and equipment parts.

Museveni said the backbone of the Lord’s Resistance Army fighters in the north had been broken and the mopping up exercise against the group was near completion.

He congratulated the officers on their achievement and urged them to make good use of the knowledge they had acquired.

Army commander Lt. Gen. Aronda Nyakairima thanked Museveni for the increased funding to the UPDF.

The commandant of the school, Major Francis Masele, Sergeants Jimmy Yawe, Silver Nabaasa, John Bosco Owiny and Private Richard Kamanzi were the best students.
