THE Tooro kingdom land board chairman, Augustine Kayonga, has been fired following allegations of undermining the authority the prime minister, William Nyakatura, and sabotaging the kingdom’s work.
“The land board has not assisted me. It has instead brought problems to the kingdom,†Nyakatura said while addressing the kingdom’s ministers and clan heads at Rukurato Hall in Fort Portal town on Friday.
In a letter addressed to Kayonga dated 17, March, Nyakatura said: “I am appointing an acting chairperson of the Tooro kingdom land board until a meeting is held to solve your problems. From today onwards do not perform any matter in relation to Tooro land board until such a meeting is held.â€
The premier alleged that Kayonga refused to sign lease titles for the people of Tooro and other private investors who seek land in the kingdom for development purposes.
However, Kayonga said the people he denied lease did not have the requirements.
He told the council that he needed guidelines on some of the complicated matters like the kingdom policy on land which contradicts the Land Act.
