Defiler jailed for 12 years

The High Court in Fort Portal presided over by Justice Dan Kiiza has sentenced a man to 12 years in jail for defilement. Patrick Basaija was convicted on Wednesday. Prosecution proved to court that on February 9, 2005 in Fort Portal municipality, Basaija had unlawful sexual intercourse with a nine-year-old girl. Court also heard that the incident occured at the girl’s home, when her mother had gone to work in Fort Portal town.
Makobore HS to get sh300m

Makobore High School is to receive sh300m from education ministry for the renovation of classrooms and laboratories starting this year. The headmaster, Sephats Turyabahika, said ministry of finance had already released sh100m to start the work. “Some classes were roofed with asbestos which was condemned long ago by the health ministry as being dangerous to human health,†he said.
Hoima receives roads money

Hoima district has received sh300m for the periodic maintenance and rehabilitation of roads from the road fund. The district had earlier received sh400m to rehabilitate the 900km road network. The district chief administrative officer, Walter Iriama, told The New Vision on Tuesday that the funds would be used to complete all the road works which were approved in the district workplan this financial year.
Rotary club donates furniture

The Rotary Club of Kyengera in Kampala has donated furniture worth sh24m to the African Rural University in Kibaale district. Presiding over the handover ceremony at the university in Kagadi town on Saturday, the district LC5 chairperson, George Namyaka, said the Government is in support of the objectives of establishing the rural university, which is an all-women university.
