THE Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) national mobilisng secretary, Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu, has called upon Ugandans not to allow the recently discovered oil to cause problems in the country.
He said African countries endowed with oil are in chaos.
Muntu cited countries like Angola and Nigeria which have oil but people are suffering due to political instability.
He accused the Government of failing to put in place institutions for developing strategies on how the natural resources can be used to reduce poverty in the country.
Muntu argued that money got from oil would solve the social and economic problems of the country if properly planned for.
He was on Monday addressing FDC delegates and party supporters at Homeland Hotel in Bushenyi district.
“We should aim at building a country where everybody benefits from the country’s resources equally,†Muntu said.
He said the country needs a leader like him. Muntu is campaigning to be the FDC candidate in next year’s presidential elections.
Muntu accused President Museveni of failing to delegate duties, saying he was involved in every project.
He explained that various regions in the country continued to have problems because of Museveni’s involvement in every activity.
He cited some of the problems as the issue of the Kyabazinga in Busoga, Bafuruki in Bunyoro, land in the central region, war in northern Uganda and poverty-related problems in the western region.
“Some people in the NRM and the opposition are disgruntled, while about 30% of the population is undecided. They need to be consolidated,†he said.
Muntu appealed to the youth to resist intimidation during the upcoming elections and guard against election malpractices.
