A TOTAL of 929 students last Saturday received diplomas and degrees from Mbarara University of Science and Technology.
Twenty three students got masters degrees while 11 got first class degrees in different courses.
Mbarara University was holding its 16th graduation and reflecting on 20 years of existence.
Prof. William Ssenteza Kajubi and Prof. Raphael Owor were awarded honorary doctorates in appreciation of their services to the nation and academia.
A New Vision correspondent in Mbarara, Abdulkarim Ssengendo, got a bachelor’s degree in development studies, while Vincent Atwine of the advertising department got a degree in business administration. Emmanuel Asiimwe of Radio West received a diploma in counselling.
The deputy chancellor, Prof Frederick Kayanja, read the names of three former students who were awarded degrees posthumously.
They were Kasiimu Mataloro who was pursuing bachelor of science, Ceasor Kawuma (bachelor of information technology) and Stephen Atuhaire (bachelor of business administration).
Kayanja, urged the graduands to use the courses they studied from the university to make meaningful contributions to national development.
He also urged them to avoid being corrupted so as to earn the trust of the people they would serve.
Prof. Peter Mugyenyi presided over the ceremony which was also attended by the state minister for higher education, Mwesigwa Rukutana, and the state minister for animal husbandry, Col. Bright Rwamirama.
