President Yoweri Museveni has urged Church leaders to engage in projects geared towards food security and poverty alleviation.

“The Church should not only engage in evangelism, teaching and discipleship. To fulfil the work of God, the Church must help communities and make them active participants in programmes that can help them solve their problems,” he said.

The President commended the Church for its firm stand against homosexuality.

He appealed to the Church to support the Government in the fight against corruption and sectarianism.

His message was contained in a speech read by the Minister Without Portfolio, Dorothy Hyuha, during a function for the World Evangelical Ministries at Rwengoma in Fort Portal on Sunday.

The ministry was established by Pastor Dickson Lubega of Kabarole Christian Fellowship Church 25 years ago.

At the same function, Life FM radio station and Abundance Micro finance institution, all belonging to Pastor Lubega, were also launched.

Hyuha broke the ground for the construction of a cathedral at Rwengoma.

Ministers Adolf Mwesige (general duties) and James Baba (vice-president’s office) attended the function.

Others were MPs Steven Kaliba (Fort Portal), Steven Kangwera (Burahya County) and Margaret Muhanga (Kabarole Woman).
