Six humanitarian organisations in northern Uganda have received motorcycles worth shs28m from CARE International, a worldwide NGO.
The organisation’s regional coordinator, Florence Amono, on Tuesday handed over 12 motorcycles to Lango Cultural Foundation, Freidies Rehabilitation Centre, War Affected Children’s Association, Northern Uganda Community Based Action for Children with Disabilities and African Development for Peace Initiative. The motorcycles, Amono said, would be used to monitor projects targeting the recovery of those affected by the LRA war. She revealed that at least 3,490 war victims across northern Uganda were already benefiting from the two-year programme. She said the victims were being offered vocational training, start up capital, plastic surgery for those who were maimed and physical rehabilitation for the tortured. George Adoko, the assistant chief administrative officer, warned NGOs against misusing donor funds in activities that do not benefit the community. He said many organisations spend donor money on monitoring and workshops, leaving out what they are supposed to do for the people.
